BG(P) Kevin Leonard
Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics and Operations, U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC)
Brigadier General Kevin A. Leonard was born in Kansas City, KS, on September 30, 1957. In 1979 he graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry. He received a Masters Degrees in Business Administration from Oklahoma City University, Advanced Military Studies from the United States Army Command and General Staff College, and a Masters degree in Strategy from the United States Army War College.
Brigadier General Leonard is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic and Advance Courses, the Command and General Staff College, the School of Advanced Military Studies, and the Army War College. His first assignment was as a Rifle and Scout Platoon Leader, in the United States Army Europe. In 1986 Brigadier General Leonard received a branch transfer to the Quartermaster Corps. Key logistics assignments include: From 1992 to 1994 – Division Plans, G-4, later Executive Officer for the 506th Forward Support Battalion, 6th Infantry Division (Light), Fort Wainwright, AK. From 1994 to 1997 – Logistics Plans and Operations Officer, later Chief Logistics Plans Section, Allied Forces Central Europe, Germany. From 1997 to 1999 – Brigadier General Leonard served as the Commander of the 101st Forward Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Riley, KS. From 2000 to 2003 Brigadier General Leonard served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, United States Army Special Operations Command, and later Commander, Special Operations Support Command (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC, supporting OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. From 2003 to 2004 he served as Chief, Sustainment Division, J4, The Joint Staff, Washington, DC, and as the Executive Assistant to the Director, Joint Staff, The Joint Staff, Washington, DC.
Brigadier General Leonard deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, from November 2004 until November 2005 where he served as the Coalition Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC) C4/Commander Army Materiel Command – Southwest Asia (AMC-SWA).
Brigadier General Leonard’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Parachutist Rigger Badge, Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge, and French Commando Badge.
